This report presents an up-to-date, detailed cost analysis of Methyl Chloride production from methanol and hydrogen chloride. The process examined is a typical catalytic vapor phase process. In this plant, methanol and anhydrous HCl are combined in vapor phase and passed through a catalyst bed. Reactor vapor outlet is quenched, dried by sulfuric acid scrubbing and then purified to generate high-purity Methyl Chloride.

Featured Report: Dimethyl Ether Production from Synthesis Gas (Direct Method)

This report presents an up-to-date, detailed cost analysis of Dimethyl Ether (DME) production from synthesis gas through the one-step process. In this process, syngas is contacted with a bifunctional catalyst that supports its conversion to methanol and the subsequent dehydration of methanol to DME - making it possible to obtain DME from syngas in a single reaction step. The presence of water due to the dehydration reaction causes a side reaction that generates carbon dioxide and hydrogen. These side products must also be separated from the crude reaction product.
